2021 SHOW

***Show Update***

Change of Show Date

Please note that the date of our 2021 show has now been changed to 24th July.

The South Wales Shire Horse Committee is currently planning this years Show in the expectation and hope, that it will take place. However, it is impossible to predict what is going to happen in the next four months and there is still a possibility that large events may not be allowed because of covid regulations. If we do have to make changes, or cancel altogether, these will be posted here on the SWSHS website and for participants, the Secretary and our Events Co-ordinator, Dana Jones will have all the up to date information. The show will take place at Bailey Park, Park Road, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire. NP7 5PR.   Click HERE for a map.

Our 37th Annual Show was held on 6th July 2019.
It was a fantastic day and a huge success.
We would like to convey our sincere thanks to everyone who attended today, the exhibitors, the traders, the sponsors, the VIP guests, the volunteers and everyone else who assisted us in making this day as good as it was.
It was great to see you and we would love to see you all again in 2021.

CLASSES – 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 14 and 15 to qualify

The aim of the BRITISH HEAVY HORSE GRASSROOTS CHAMPIONSHIP is to encourage the more novice or inexperienced exhibitor into the competitive world of showing.  To qualify, neither the exhibitor nor the horse should be entered into any of the Horse of The Year qualifying classes for the 2019 show season.

The highest placed novice competitor will qualify for the British Heavy Horse Grassroots Championship.  This event will be held as part of the Rare Breed Show at Arena UK on 5th October 2019.  This competition is for pure bred horses that are registered in the main British stud books of the Shire, Clydesdale or Suffolk Horses Society. Part bred animals are not eligible to qualify for the championship.

Competitors must be members of either the Shire Horse Society, The Clydesdale Horse Society or The Suffolk Horse Society.  For the avoidance of doubt, as the Percherons are not listed as British Native Rare Breed with the RBST, they are not eligible to join this show/qualification, with the exemption of the British Ridden Heavy Horse Class.

Stallions are not permitted in the British Heavy Horse Grassroots Championship
